The difference between hiring a personal assistant through The Middle vs. an agency
The Middle only places part-time, ongoing personal assistant positions, whereas agencies focus on full time, salaried assistant positions.
Instead of recruiting for specific positions, we pre-screen applicants and qualified candidates are accepted into our database of part-time personal assistants. We then match clients with candidates already in our database who are looking for the type of position our clients are offering.
Price! Agencies charge 10-20% of an assistant’s salary as commission, which can be anywhere between $5000-$15,000. We place part-time positions and our fees reflect that: our services are only $550.

Currently, we only place part-time personal assistants. These positions are meant to be ongoing and long-term, and not temp or contract work.
-
The market rate for a personal assistant is between $25-$30/hr. Some assistants may accept $20/hr, and more experienced assistants may ask for $35+/hr.
-
Absolutely! It is important to meet face-to-face with any potential candidates to evaluate your personal dynamic. We have already pre-interviewed and screened our personal assistant candidates, but once we send you your matches, you may select who you would like to interview with personally and we will set up virtual interviews.
-
There is no difference in hourly rates between a virtual personal assistant or an in-person personal assistant at The Middle. Each candidate has an asking minimum rate and is open to negotiation pending the details of your role.
For in-person personal assistants who run errands using their personal vehicle, it is expected that that you will reimburse the candidate at the standard mileage rate for driving done on the job (this does not include the commute to/from your home).
-
Our personal assistants aren’t limited to working in specific industries. If your position calls for support with business tasks, part of our matchmaking is providing you with candidates who have relevant experience for your industry. Clients of The Middle have included (but are not limited to) entertainment executives, small business owners, writers, and tech entrepreneurs.
-
Please allow up to 2 weeks, though we work hard to send you your candidate matches within 2-4 business days. It may take slightly longer to receive your candidates if we are in the middle of a round of interviews and need time to onboard and do our diligence on any new candidates who may be a fit for you.

Qualities To Look For In a Los Feliz Personal Assistant

We’ll work to match you with candidates who fit these needs. While interviews between you and potential candidates are crucial to get a better understanding of how you communicate together and to explain the specific tasks and expectations of the role, we've already made sure that all of our candidates are qualified to be meeting with you in the first place! Some key skills we consider:
Communication: A personal assistant should have excellent verbal and written communication skills. We assess how each candidate corresponds with us during the pre-screening process and while working with them to set up interviews with clients.
Organization: We determine whether a candidate demonstrates strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and keep things running smoothly.
Time Management: Being able to manage time independently and efficiently is key to being a successful part-time personal assistant.

Administrative Skills: Experience in administrative tasks like calendar management, scheduling, email correspondence, and file organization demonstrates the ability to handle similar matters with ease.
Availability: We match you with candidates who’s schedules align with the hours you require for the position.
References and Recommendations: We conduct reference checks from previous employers to get insights into the candidate's work ethic and reliability.
