FAQs
-
Personal assistants handle home and office tasks that take up time in your day. They are a right-hand who supports your busy life by managing routine tasks so you can focus on what matters most to you (your business, your family, or yourself!)
-
Clients pay their personal assistant directly. We do not facilitate payments, or take a cut of your personal assistant’s hourly rate. Our services fees to match you with qualified candidates and facilitate interviews are separate from what you pay your personal assistant for their work.
-
You can expect to pay $25-$30/hr for support from a personal assistant. We don’t recommend offering lower than $20/hr. If you are looking to hire a part-time executive assistant, or a candidate with extensive experience, you can expect candidates to ask for a minimum of $30/hr.
-
First, submit our Client Questionnaire to establish your needs and preferences. After reviewing, we will send you your best candidate matches (for free!). If you would like to interview any of the candidates we send, pay a non-refundable $100 interview deposit fee to have up to 5 interviews scheduled and set up for you. Once you decide to hire one of our candidates, there is a one-time $445 placement fee, bringing the total services fee to $545. You pay your PA their hourly wages directly.
-
At this time, we do not offer full-time personal assistants. All of our assistants are looking for part-time positions ranging from 5-25 hours per week.
-
The Middle does not conduct background checks. As a California company, we adhere to California's "Ban the Box" Assembly Bill 1008, which prevents background checks from being conducted before an offer of employment is on the table. Since the candidates are not The Middle’s employees, we are not legally allowed to perform the background check.
We do conduct reference checks, and all candidates are pre-screened in an interview with our team. Post-interview, candidates must complete an "eligibility assignment" that assesses how they research, organize and communicate information/online tasks.
-
We strive to provide matches within 2-4 days, though it can take up to 2 weeks (if we are currently onboarding new candidates who may be a match). Interviews are then set up based on your availability so as soon as you provide that information, we can get started on coordinating your interviews. The process can move as quickly as within 1 week!
-
We place personal assistants for private individuals and busy professionals rather than for specific industries. We match you with candidates who fit your specific needs, and one of the elements in this matching is experience or interest in your industry, if your position entails business support. Clients of The Middle range from screenwriters to consultants to artists to executives to engineers to interior designers- the list goes on!

Questions to Ask When Interviewing a Potential Personal Assistant
During an interview, we recommend connecting on expectations around availability and what working together would look like. You want to try to understand what will keep them invested. We have found that candidates who are interested in the client's world are more successful pairings.
Make sure to assess how communication flows with each candidate. Communication styles can vary so it's important that you have a baseline understanding of whether yours fits with theirs.
A few questions you can ask are:
What interests you about this position?
What prior experience have you had that transfers to this position?
I need [your needs]. Why do you feel uniquely equipped to fill those needs?
What is your current availability? Let’s discuss what working together would look like on a week-to-week basis.
What questions do you have for me?
Remember, we’ve pre-screened and selected these candidates for you because we believe they can handle the position. You can enter interviews with the understanding that the candidates are qualified for the job.
